The ugly truth about sobriety?

There's no more running from your shit.

So, here’s how to face the uncomfortable shit and start feeling better ↓

But first, I need to share I’m actually super grateful that I used to have a drinking and drug problem.

Hear me out.

By numbing myself with substances, my body & mind were doing the best they could to make me feel safe and comfortable when my emotions felt like too much to bear. It felt too overwhelming and scary to be with the parts of myself that were hurting — the parts the felt lonely, lifeless, trapped, unloved. I didn’t know how to sit with those feelings and process them, so I drank and did drugs. I got as fucked up as I could to get as far away from those feelings as I could.

And ya know what? I thank my body and mind for that. Was it effective? In the short term, seemingly yes. In the long term? FUCK NO. But I brought myself to such a low point that I HAD to change and eventually I was opened to a beautiful life through finally facing my shit.

This is not me glorifying alcohol or drugs!!! The acceptance of the “bad” is what the kids are calling “shadow work” these days (the shadow parts of us aren’t actually bad, but they feel deeply uncomfortable until we accept them).

Shadow work is allowing parts of ourselves to come into awareness, into being seen and tended to - when we actually feel embarrassed/ ashamed/ guilty/ etc by those parts of us and want to hide them away, forgetting their existence.

When we can sit with the shadow parts of us, we come into greater acceptance for ourselves, then we can start to experience love & life much more deeply. THAT is how we start feeling better.

Shadow work is a powerful element for sobriety and a massively impactful way to change your life. You know we’re going to be getting deep into it in Coming Home Sober, my 420-friendly sober support program that will help you go from struggling with sobriety to loving your next-level sober life.
